Singapore is a city that jumped to the top of everybody’s travel bucket list after the movie Crazy Rich Asians reached top charts.
After actually visiting, I can see why. Seriously the city is in the middle of a garden. Which was intentionally done when they built the city. There are green spaces everywhere and Crazy Rich Asians makes it look as beautiful as it actually is.
After visiting, I wanted to make this Singapore travel guide to help you find things to do in Singapore. Thankfully, my uncle is a resident in Singapore and he showed us around as a local. I stayed for 3 nights, 4 days and it was the perfect amount of time since Singapore is a pretty small city.
Yes, the Marina Bay Sands. Known for its rooftop infinity pool that is no joke beautiful. It has a city skyline view and honestly, what more could you ask for?? Beware tho, the pool gets really crowded later in the day. So, if you’re looking for the good photo opps – go early morning!
You have to pay to use the infinity pool. It’s $17 SGD, unless you are a guest staying at the Marina Bay Sands, then it’s free!
Marina Bay Sands also has its own mall. It’s higher end so expect to see Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc. (I’m poor lol so I just walked around and ate at the food court, which has such good food options!)
The conservatories at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, is literally so cool. It’s like visiting gardens from every country/continent but all in one place. They have bundles if you want to visit them all, but it will take at least 3-5 hours to visit them all.
Plan your time accordingly! I didn’t know this beforehand and felt super rushed going through the conservatories.
We went to Gardens by the Bay around 6pm and honestly it was the perfect time. Even though it was a little crowded, we were able to experience the Gardens both when it was light out and when it was dark.
The light show was by far one of my fav things I did while I was in Singapore. Basically during the light show, the trees light up in different colors to the tune of different music, and it’s literally so cool!
The light show is at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM every evening.
Just outside the Marina Bay Sands mall, there is a fountain that has light & water showers every day. The times are 8 PM and 9 PM every night. There’s also a 10 PM show on Fridays and Saturdays.
Everything I’ve listed so far is right around the Marina Bay and it is possible to do it all in one day, but you might feel a little rushed. If you’re trying to do the light show at the gardens and the light and water show, it might be better to space them out a bit and grab a bite to eat in between.
It’s a half lion/half fish looking thing across from the Marina Bay Sands on the other side of Marina Bay. It has water coming out of its mouth. It’s a mythical creature that’s often used as a mascot of Singapore.
I visited at night and the city skyline view was incredible. It was pretty crowded at that point too. You can also see the Marina Bay Sands from across the bay next to the Merlion.
Clarke Quay is a cute, little riverside port that is known for its music and night life. We went walked here after visiting Merlion and it’s so lively even on week days!
The port is so picturesque so there’s a ton of photo opportunities (if you’re into that). I loved going at night because the lights at night made it just that much more picturesque.
The Singapore Botanical gardens are free! And they are so beautiful!! They aren’t kidding when they say Singapore is a city in a garden, because most of the things to do in Singapore will center around visiting gardens.
I’m not complaining tho, it was so relaxing and I loved every second of it.
The National Orchid Garden is literally a garden full of orchids. It’s so pretty and I would go back a thousand times if I could(I don’t know if I’m being biased since orchids are one of my fav flowers) but I loved it.
Vivocity is the largest shopping mall in Singapore, which actually surprised me! Seriously, the amount of malls in Singapore is insane. There’s luxury brands, but also affordable, yet stylish brands so you really get the best of both worlds (que Hannah Montana theme song).
If you’re not that into malls, then you don’t need to go. It has a great view of Sentosa and Universal Studios and you’ll need to take a train from Vivocity to get to Universal.
I didn’t end up going to Universal Studios because I thought it would be similar to the one in L.A. which I’ve gone to so many times as a kid. But it’s fun for people who have never been!
Sentosa is resort that’s right by Universal Studios and its also super cute!
The ferris wheel of Singapore. It’s super cute and has good views! Especially at night! If you’re into riding ferris wheels, then go for it! I didn’t feel the need to ride it, but I visited it!
Makansutra is an outdoor food market with a ton of different food stalls. They have a ton of variety and seriously all the food I ate there was delicious. We went there two nights in a row because it was so dang good!
Singapore is a really small city. It literally takes less than one hour to drive across the entire country. On the bright side, that means transportation in Singapore is super easy to figure out.
The MRT is the train system in Singapore and it’s seriously one of the best and smoothest systems I’ve ever used. Pretty much all of Singapore is interconnected by train so its super easy to get around and tickets are cheap too!
Do not try to hail a taxi in Singapore. They won’t stop. If you take a public taxi, you need to go to a taxi stand. They are all over the city, so they aren’t hard to find.
Make sure your taxi is using a meter. I didn’t have any problems with any of the taxi drivers, most of them actually gave me suggestions on where to go!
Or you can use a taxi app! There are a ton of taxi apps available in Singapore. Some I never even heard of, but I saw them everywhere! Grab, Comfort/City Cab, Easy Taxi, and Yellow Cab are just some of them to name a few.

Skyscanner is another great search engine to find cheap flights because it searches sites and airlines around the globe, so you know no cheap deal is being left on the table.
Getting Around Southeast Asia? Book your buses, trains, and ferries with 12Go Asia. One search shows you every route and price, so you're not digging through ten different local booking sites.
Need a Place to Stay? Book your hotel with Expedia, where I start looking, especially when I want to bundle flights and stays together. Hotels.com is my backup when I want to compare prices or I'm chasing their rewards program for a free night.
On a Tighter Budget? Hostelworld is where I go for hostels. It has the largest inventory out there, and you can search for dorm beds or private rooms depending on what you're after!
Want a Free Way to Travel? Try TrustedHousesitters! You look after someone's home and pets while they're away, and in exchange you get free accommodation (minus the subscription fee). It's a great option if you're traveling long term and want to cut costs. I personally use this as a host and a sitter, and it's truly great!
