How to Grow Your Blog With Pinterest

I’ve had this blog for over a year now and have been trying to figure out the best ways to grow my blog. I played around with a bunch of different social media platforms including Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, YouTube, and Pinterest. From my experience, I’ve gotten the best results using Pinterest and wanted to share some of the ways I use Pinterest to grow my blog to help you grow your blog with Pinterest.

Now I’m not this amazingly huge blog that has millions of followers, but I went from consistently having zero daily views to over 1500 all time views in about a week from using Pinterest. My Pinterest gets around 40k viewers monthly and is my main source of generating leads to my blog. I wanted to create this set of guidelines as a way to track my blog growth progress and share my process with you guys. This post is mostly something I’ll have to look back on in the future.

Here’s my guidelines on how to grow your blog with Pinterest:

1. Tailwind App

The Tailwind App is my secret weapon to growing my blog. This is a bloggers best friend and I’ve had amazing results using this app. Basically this app is a network of bloggers that support and help other bloggers. You can join tribes in your specific niche and auto-schedule pins accordingly. For example, I am in a couple different travel tribes (as seen above) and can post my blog posts into these tribes. One of the best parts is that you can re-pin other rich-content posts from other bloggers in the tribe and they’ll return the favor! It’s a give before you get kind of concept and the more you pin other content, the more pins you’ll get!

The Tailwind app is everything you need to start automating your blog posts on Pinterest. It allows you to optimize the times you post on Pinterest and creates a network full of bloggers in your niche! My engagement with my blog posts dramatically increased after I started using this app!

2. Consistent posting schedule

One of the hardest parts of having a blog is creating a consistent posting schedule (trust me I know!). I’ve had difficulty with this in the past, but publicly promoting posts on specific days will force you to get your work done.

I post every Sunday and Wednesday at 9AM CST. Having a consistent posting schedule will increase your SEO. It will ensure that you are serious about your blog and will continue to create rich-content for your readers. You can write every day and work ahead (which in the long run you’ll thank yourself for), but I recommend publishing new posts at least twice a week!

3. Vertical Featured Images

This is so important for trying to grow your blog with Pinterest! Vertical images take up the most space on a Pinterest news feed and attracts the most attention. Because of the layout Pinterest uses, vertical images can take up the whole screen of an iPhone.

I usually use 735 px x 1102 px and have gotten great results from this size. A good reference number of width:height is using a 2:3 ratio.

4. Attractive Pinterestable Images

Most of the people using Pinterest are females so having pretty and attractive featured images is crucial to succeeding. I use Canva.com to create all my Pinterest images because of they have awesome pre-made Pinterest templates. Occasionally, I’ll use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, but Canva does the job just as good and its faster and easier.

Choosing a pretty font and compatible colors are very important to creating the featured image for your blog post. You want to make sure this image captures your target audience’s attention so make it as pretty as you can! Also, be sure your title on your image is short and sweet and tells your reader what they are about to read. Above are a few of my Pinterest icon examples that I have had the most success with!

5. Pinterest Share Buttons

This might be obvious, but you’d be surprised how many blogs don’t have share buttons! Having social media share buttons is so important to growing your blog in general! Which means a Pinterest share button is crucial to grow your blog using Pinterest.

People who like your blog post will want to pin it to their Pinterest boards. If there’s a button already on the page to do so, they’ll click it. If there’s not, they won’t pin it. It’s that simple.

6. Call to Action

You’re eighth grade English teacher was totally right and you should always use a call to action! A call to action at the end of your blog post is a reminder to your reader to take action to save your post for later! It’s a small sentence that can instantly grow your blog with Pinterest. My usual call to action is:

“Like this post? Don’t forget to pin it!”

A small phrase like this at the end of your blog post in addition to the Pinterest share button will give you awesome results!

7. Lots of Images

Unless you’re an English teacher then I’m sure you don’t want to read a bunch of text either (nothing against English teachers though, I love writing lol). Having a lot of images on your blog post will make your blog post relatable and personable. It’s more likely for a reader to read your entire blog post if there’s more pictures and less words!!

8. Easy to Read

The reading level you choose to write at will depend on what niche you are targeting. Most people suggest writing at a grade school reading level to make readability easier across the board.

Readability also plays a role into SEO so it’s important to simplify your post as much as you can! I’m sure we all can relate to typing the most simplified version of what you’re searching into Google!

9. Mobile Friendly Blog Layout

Most people who use Pinterest use the Pinterest mobile app. It’s so important to have a mobile friendly blog layout to grow your blog with Pinterest because of this!!

Also, it’s just as important to make sure the images and text on your blog posts work well on all kinds of devices! This includes phones (iPhone, Android, HP, etc.), tablets, laptops, and computers. Most people forget that the way a post looks on your laptop can look completely different on a different laptop.

If your post looks funky and out of order, odds are readers won’t continue to read it.

10. Uniform Boards

No one likes to follow Pinterest accounts that posts random stuff all the time. Uniform Pinterest boards will attract more followers in your niche to your account. For example, I have different variations of travel boards on my Pinterest and put any personal boards I might use on private. This makes it easy for followers to find other content they might be looking for!

Additionally, I recommend having a board titled as your blog name, filled with only content you created, and putting it first! Add your blog posts consistently (but don’t over do it) to this board and the all your other boards. The rest of your boards will help rank your content if you have a uniform theme!

11. Pin other Rich Content Posts

I know. Your goal is to try to grow YOUR blog with Pinterest, but pinning other peoples’ posts are just as important. Pinning rich content posts will ensure your readers that your account will always produce rich content. Consistently pinning rich content posts to your boards will rank your posts higher and might even appear on Pinterest suggestions!

Tailwind is one of the best ways to ensure you’re pinning rich content posts. Obviously, the people who use Tailwind are other content creators that want to promote what they’re writing which means they probably put time and effort into their posts!

12. Build a Network of Other Bloggers

This is easier said than done. But one of biggest things about growing your blog is growing your network of bloggers first. You can do this through the Tailwind app through this chat feature or even shouting out some bloggers you love off your Instagram story. Building this network can lead to collaborations in the future which will be beneficial to the both of you! Don’t come off harsh by asking for favors right off the bat, start off by getting to know one another. Sometimes you have to give before you get, so think about what you can offer the other blogger in return for something you want! I guess you can say it’s kinda like dating to find your blogger collab match!

13. Join Pinterest Group Boards

Joining a group board in your specific niche can totally launch your blog. Basically a group board is a place where other bloggers pin all their content. It’s kinda similar to the tribes feature in the Tailwind app but on Pinterest directly. The only thing I don’t like about group boards is that sometimes it’s hard to join them. If you have a good connections with other bloggers then you might be lucky and get invited to join a group board (this means follow the step above and start building that network!). Otherwise group boards are super beneficial and can ensure you are re-pinning rich content!

These are some of the guidelines I consistently use to grow my blog using Pinterest. I’ve gotten some of my greatest results using Pinterest and think its one of the best platforms bloggers should use!

I hope this post helped clarify how to grow your blog with Pinterest! Comment below some of the ways you’ve seen progress growing your blog and I’ll see you in the next post!
