Hello and welcome to Ang Around The Globe, a blog where I talk about everything travel related and about my journey on how I am trying to fund my love for traveling.
My name is Angelique Vestil and I recently graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (deeply in debt but we don’t need to talk about that yet). I started this blog in 2017 with the hopes that it would help me figure out every aspect of my life, all the way from schooling to traveling and everything in between. I don’t have my life figured out yet, but hopefully one day I will. In the future, I want to have this blog to fall back on and reminisce everything I went through.
I absolutely love traveling. But for some reason I always thought of traveling as something you did when you retired. I mean a lot of people do. A lot of people have a goal to work a ton, retire when they’re 65, and then travel. That’s all fun and games until you’re walking around with a cane and are having an extremely difficult time traveling.
Think about it, really think about it. Traveling requires mobility which isn’t promised in the future. I mean we have our whole lives to live! I don’t know about you, but my definition of living doesn’t mean working my life away.
Now obviously I’m not saying quit your job to travel (or maybe I am…). But traveling while you’re young and mobile is the greatest time to travel!! I’m hoping I can help prove this statement and encourage you to hop on a plane across the globe! Traveling for me inspired how I want to live my life and why I chose to pursue this digital nomad lifestyle.
Growing up I had the opportunity to travel around North America through sports and with my family. My family encourages traveling to learn and supports my adventures around the globe, which I’m so grateful for! It wasn’t luxurious or anything though, so don’t think I was flying first-class as a three-year-old, I wasn’t.
I come from a first-generation, Filipino family so growing up money was tight. The way we mainly traveled was by packing up our 9 seater, beaten up Yukon XL and driving across the country and then crashing at family/friend houses all throughout the States. Even with little money, my parents always encouraged traveling and saw the value that came with it.
Since my parents were born and raised in the Philippines I was taught to love a different culture other than the one I grew up in in the states. I think this made me want to learn more about other cultures and see different countries. It made me want to understand humans at a deeper level – where their roots were from and seeing that first hand.
Traveling has always been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I had a Paris themed room even though I had never gone to Europe. I dreamed of all the different countries I wanted to see and all the food I wanted to eat. It wasn’t until I was 19 years old where I actually pursued my love for traveling solo.
In the summer of 2017 I backpacked Europe, which then lead me to the decision of studying abroad in Spring 2018. Ever since, I’ve had a dire urge to see the rest of the world and all the different cultures it has to offer. I’ve stayed in extremely cheap hostels to four-star hotels and wanted to share my experience on how I travel and why I travel. I eventually hope to have a career doing something I love while globetrotting around the world. I want to use this blog as a platform that encourages people to travel!
What’s crazy is that traveling has taught me more about what I wanted out of life than school ever did. It taught me that a desk job would not give me the freedom of being able to consistently explore the globe. If I want to make a living by traveling then I need to find a career that lets me work remotely.
After graduating from Marquette University with a double major in Information Systems and Marketing in May 2019, I booked a flight to Asia and didn’t end up going back home on my return flight. Right now I’m solo female traveling through Asia and it’s been a magical ride. I’ve manifested opportunities, created The Female Passion Project, and learned so much about myself in this short time being alone.
I have big, big dreams and am trying to figure out how to turn them into reality. I’m not quite sure where I am going with this yet, but that’s the beauty of this whole journey. Right now my brain is just trying to figure out this thing we call life. Until I figure it out, you’ll be able to follow me on my journey and travels here.
Love always,
Angelique Vestil – Ang Around The Globe
